Welcome to Huguenot Trail's International News....

GSE:  Last year (2005-2006) marked the 40th Anniversary of the GSE (Group Study Exchange) program.  During its first year, 34 GSE teams participated in exchanges -- more than 400 teams participate today.  It is incredible to think that since 1965 more than 11,000 GSE teams have traveled back and forth, involving over 50,000 team members.

Last September, a team of 5 Australians arrived in Virginia as the GSE team.  What joy to have our club involved as hosts!  These folks were here to learn about the United States and to visit with folks in this country who have a similar vocation to theirs.  As hosts, we were responsible for coordinating home-stays and vocational days for the visiting team, providing all meals, lodging and transportation.  Our hosting members were Gordon Shaw and Jim Burns; the Gates provided activity at their farm/lake along with Kevin Chaplin and Jim Burns.  The entire club got to meet them when they spoke at our regular luncheon meeting that week.  What a great success this program was!  It is always great to visit one on one with folks from the other side of the globe!

10,000 Villages:  a big thank you to our International Chair, Yancey Snavely and all the members who contributed bags of school supplies for 10,000 Villages.  Yancey delivered almost 50 bags for this very worthwhile cause and we hope to be able to do this program every year!

EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year):  Our club has a goal of 100% participation for donating to Rotary International this year.  What a great program!  The best part is that part of the money that we individually contribute comes back to our District to be used for grants!  Our club benefited from this last year!  Check out our Vocational Service Page for more information on how District Simplified Grants can help your club.
